Forbidden fruit
Kyselá, Kristýna ; Nytra, Martin (referee) ; Štindlová, Marie (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis Forbidden fruit is inspired by the pole dance exotic community, striptease dancers and the dance itself (pole dancing with heels). The work consists of a series of paintings on canvas painted using a combined technique (shellac ink, tempera, oil and encaustic). The central motif of the paintings are figures, portraits or details of dancers. Dance and dancers serve as a bridge for other subthemes: performativity, eroticism, gesture, physicality, exhibitionism, submissiveness or dominance. The work plays out the complex theme of pole dance, erotic dances, sexuality and the sexualization of the female body. It gives us an insight into nightclubs, dance halls and the intimate life of the main characters who reveal themselves and tell us their own story.

The next aim is to focus on the evaluation of the effect of pole dance exercise on the activity of vestibular system in static and dynamic postural stability, and compare the results to the same control group of women. Methods: The study is designed as observational, comparative and cross-sectional. 34 women within the range of 18-30 years of age took part in the study and were divided into 2 groups. Experimental group (n2=17) consisted of pole dancers, whereas women without regular physical activity (n2=17) represented control group. The measurement of static and dynamic postural stability was performed using dynamic computer posturograph NeuroCom SMART Equi Test (MCT), Rhytmic Weight Shift (RWS) and Head Shake - Sensory Organization Test (HS-SOT). Collected results of both groups were analyzed using Microsof Excel 2016 and compared. Results: In SOT protocol, no statistically significant differences were found between the groups,...

Results: The average values during maximal spiroergometry test were VO2peak 46,1 ml/min/kg a Wpeak 3,7 W/kg. Probands' cardiorespiratory fitness was above average ( 0,03 < p < 0,04). The average pole dance performance intensity was 89 % TFmax (158 bpm) and 79 % VO2peak (36,2 ml/min/kg), the peak values were 96 % TFmax (178 bpm) and 110 % VO2peak (50,6 ml/min/kg). More than a half of the pole dance performance was performed above the intesity of anaerobic threshold (p = 0.019). "Pole dance teaches femininity, but it can be incredibly masculine": A gender analysis of the pole dance phenomenon
Čákorová, Marie ; Soares Moura, Eva (advisor) ; Moskvina, Yuliya (referee)
In sport, as in society, men and women face different expectations related to their gender roles. This also applies to pole dance, which is a sport dominated by women and is generally perceived as feminine. In recent years, however, it has become more and more popular among men. As a result, ingrained stereotypes about the presence of men in pole dance, and about the sport itself, are possible to change. Nevertheless, what is the relationship between gender and the self-presentation of dancers, and to what extent are they themselves involved in reinforcing, reproducing, and breaking down gender stereotypes within this community? This bachelor thesis observes doing gender in pole dance and aims to answer these questions. The work draws on the the theory of West and Zimmerman, who describe an impact of gender expectations on individual behavior and thus the process of doing gender. For a detailed understanding of this phenomenon, data were collected through qualitative semi- structured interviews. Those were realized with six male communication partners and four female partners, who actively participate in pole dance and have several years of experience performing. For evaluation of these interviews, the methods of thematic analysis were used. Results show the following. First, the...
When Men Dance. Construction of Masculinity in Male Pole Dancers
Postránecká, Markéta ; Sokolová, Věra (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
This diploma thesis examines current phenomenon of pole dance/sport. This activity which was originally performed in strip clubs was relatively recently redefined as a fitness activity offered at pole dancing studios initially for women, but now also for men. Despite the efforts to redefined pole dance as a fitness activity in the eyes of the public pole dance is still associated with its erotic roots and (therefore) with women. According to previous research pole dance is seen as a feminine and feminized activity. Men's participation in these activities is, according to studies, associated with the belief that those men are effeminate or homosexual and therefore construct their gender identity in ways which are inconsistent with the social ideas of masculinity. In this thesis I explore the ways in which male pole dancers construct their masculinity within this unique environment. I also explore what participation in the world of pole dance mean to men who take pole dancing classes and/or who teach them as well as the stereotypes placed upon men to act in a certain way to be considered masculine. In this research I also discuss the role of the body on construction of masculinity. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with six Czech male pole dancers over the age of 18 and examined...
